or, how to make your sheets last longer

I dislike spending hours slaving over the ironing as much as any woman I know but Egyptian cotton bedding, unlike polycotton and sythetic bed linen, can be prone to creasing and does therefore require a little extra TLC.  However, the increased comfort, durability and warm in winter, cool in summer properties of this amazing fabric easily outweigh the very slight inconvenience of this extra effort.

This is the advice I received from our Egyptian supplier that I have followed for many years now.  I have Egyptian cotton bedding in my bed linen cupboard that I've owned for over 5 years and it's still got years of wear left in it.

Follow these few tips and you should get years of comfortable sleep from your Egyptian cotton bedding:
1.
Use a gentle wash cycle (approx 40 degrees). Forget those boil washes that your mother used to do.
2. Use a mild non-biological detergent.
3. DO NOT bleach, as it will damage the cotton fibres over time.
4. Remove cotton sheets promptly from the washing machine after washing. This will minimize creasing.
5. Shaking linens out prior to placing them in the dryer will minimize creases.
6. When machine drying, use a warm temperature setting, remove sheets while they are still slightly damp and hang or smooth out and fold immediately Iron whilst damp on a warm setting and use the steam setting if available.
7. Spray starch also helps to reduce the amount of ironing required.

It is worth noting that your Egyptian cotton bedding will get softer (and stronger) with use.  This is a unique feature of the Egyptian cotton long staple yarn.  As a result creases will drop out much more easily.

I hope this helps
