CHANDELIERS

Chandeliers

Glam lighting is well and truly in with the return of the chandelier as a key design statement. No longer just reserved for dusty old mansion houses, chandeliers are cropping up in period and ultra modern houses, flats and apartments alike. The trend is in keeping with the current movement towards the desire for eclecticism in home decor and no longer feeling that you have to pick on one period style and stick with that throughout. The key is to mix and match traditional with modern.

The main restriction on going for a chandelier is that they are very heavy, require specialist fitting and have always been very expensive. Not any more…Now there are chandelier style pendant shades on the market made from much lighter materials, such as acrylic, that you can fit yourself as easily as changing any lampshade and they are a fraction of the cost too.

A LITTLE SPARKLE

Sparkling Drum Shades

If you are still unsure about chandeliers then drum shades in bold patterned textiles highlighted with beads, sequins or tassels are a great alternative that give some of the same glitz and sparkle but in a more constrained and contemporary fashion.

LOW ENERGY, BIG STYLE

One thing that can really ruin your glamour lighting is an ugly low-energy light bulb and they don't work with dimmer switches, which are essential for a romantic glam look. So, we have scoured the internet and found a couple of manufacturers that offer low energy bulbs that look like normal bulbs.

Megaman and Osram both offer traditional bulb shaped low-energy alternatives that work with standard analogue dimmer switches. If you’re not bothered about a dimmer but want an attractive low-energy alternative then Megaman and Osram also make low-energy candle bulbs.
